My daughter and I made an appointment to pick blackberries this morning. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a great experience! We parked in the parking lot of Storage Central of Franklin Co. The farm surrounds the storage complex. Hannah met us when we arrived and brought us to the building where they keep the berry picking containers and where they weigh it when you're finished. The berry bushes were thornless and in rows so it was super easy to pick. Just wear tennis shoes. No need for pants or long sleeves. I picked for 40 minutes (my daughter less, she went inside to the shade to get water they have in the building and to play with Hannah's two adorable kids). Hannah explained that you only pick the berries that come right off and don't need to be pulled. I picked lots of wild berries growing up but my daughter had not. Upon finishing, I brought my gallon bucket in (together we had filled one half way up) and she weighed it and then I also grabbed some onions, tomato and raspberries. Reasonable prices and delicious! There were bugs out there but I didn't return with any ticks and chiggers which was what I was worrying about. Lol They are taking appointments for Friday picking until the berries run out in July. We will definitely come back if we are in town on a Friday. The blackberry pie we made was delicious but we want to make blackberry crisp next time with their yummy berries!
