I was a little disappointed that they only had one type of apple available for picking the day we came and not very many of them left on the trees. (This was the first Monday in October, which is prime apple season, so I would have expected a lot more options.) However, the employees were really sweet and the farm store is adorable. The apples we bought in the store were divine. My favorites were the Shenandoah Red and Winesap. And the cider donuts were delicious. Yum.
Great place for apple picking and apple cider donuts. The grounds are beautiful. A wonderful place to spend the afternoon!!
I love this place. Great variety of local foods and goods in their store (lots of good gift options), many of which are made by Fruit Hill. I went on Oct 25--they had a lot of cute pumpkins to choose from, but this year, the apples weren't on the trees for picking this late (not surprising!) They still had an "Apple Trail" where you can walk down their orchard and pick your apples from their large bins, which is cute. Their evercrisp variety is particularly good
Our 5yo asked to go to an apple orchard and we didn't want to go to a super busy/popular spot so we landed on Fruit Hill Orchard for our visit. We visited Fruit Hill on a Monday (10/2) as soon as they opened. We basically had the place to ourselves. Everything was clearly labeled as to what varieties were and where to pick and not pick. The staff were extremely helpful. We felt the prices were fair. The shop was adorable (tons of already picked apples, jams, jellies, sauces, apple butters, and other local items). We were also pleasantly surprised at the activities for kids (an obstacle course, gourd bowling, bean bag toss, ring toss). We will definitely be back.
So much fun! Instructions were easy and the picking is quite affordable as well. The workers were very nice and seemed quite passionate about their jobs, you love to see it. I'll find my way back for some more apples and perhaps some of those donuts as well!
