We love this place. Get everything you need in one place. Produce. Plants. Gifts. Fountains. Yard statues. Pots. Etc. Always fun to walk through. Staff is always so nice :)
I loved this nursery and can't wait to come back in the spring! It's late fall and the nursery is decked out with holiday decor and a great selection of really healthy looking Christmas trees. The nursery has an amazing market with educational displays related to housing and feeding a variety of wildlife including birds, amphibians and mammals. So unique for this area, I can't wait to go back. If you're looking for native plants, this is an excellent resource since most of their perennials are natives.
I loved this place!! It's a lot bigger than it looks. Knowledgeable employees and really good prices for nicely developed plants and bushes. My blackberries are doing GREAT! There's also a really extensive bird feeding/wildlife section with some niche types of seed and things for attracting wild fish, butterflies, toads, squirrels and other critters which was interesting.
It could be a lack of training, or a lack of experience with aquatic plants, but I have never had a worse customer service experience than here. My spouse and I came to Wingard's because it is one of the few places in the state that offers aquatic plants for a Koi pond. The area for these plants looked small, so we asked a staff member if they kept them anywhere else, only for him to look completely bewildered, as if he’d never heard of aquatic plants before. After searching on our own, we found an island planter featuring a variety of aquatic oxygenators—which we bought primarily because it included a pitcher plant we wanted. After spending $60 and taking it home, we set it in our pond and wondered why it wasn’t floating. We quickly discovered they had sold it to us without the flotation ring it was supposed to come with, which nearly killed the entire arrangement. We called, went back, and exchanged the unit, ensuring we got the flotation ring this time. However, after keeping a close eye on it at home, the plants started dying. I did some online research and discovered our little island contained Water Hyssop, Trumpet Pitcher Plants, and Aquatic Ludwigia. Fun fact: the Hyssop and Ludwigia are aggressive nutrient eaters that fight for dominance, while the pitcher plant will literally die in fertilized soil. These three plants were biologically destined to 'Highlander' themselves until only one remained because they were potted together. The three are currently bouncing back now only because we manually separated them. How a professional nursery sells a pre-made $60 arrangement designed to kill itself off without a word of warning is baffling. Wingard's has a good variety, but I highly recommend doing intensive research before buying here. Their staff either doesn't know their product, or they are intentionally selling arrangements designed to die right after the refund window closes. Deeply disappointed.
Beautiful shop. The options are endless! Rare plants, common plants and local foods - I’m happy! Tons of assistance outside, if you need it - not as much inside, but it seemed the staff was busy with inventory.
