I have mixed feelings about this garden center. My first visit here was fantastic—I bought a pet chicken and a great selection of pond plants, and I was really happy with my experience. However, my second visit was incredibly disappointing and raised some serious safety concerns. I brought my service animal with me on my second trip to look for Molly goldfish in the koi/goldfish area. When I couldn't find them, I stepped into the goldfish building to see if they had been relocated. The business has a clear rule stating that only service animals are allowed on the property. Despite this, there is a resident shop cat living inside that building. While we were trying to look at the turtles, the cat approached us and lunged at my dog, scratching its nose. I did not move my dog toward the cat, I noticed the cat's aggressive/defensive behavior and was actively trying to get away from the situation. To protect my service animal, I used my foot to push the cat away (I was prepared to kick it if it decided to attack again I do not like harming animals nor do I ever want to.) Immediately after, an employee yelled at me for kicking the cat. I did not kick it but I was unfortunately prepared to if it lunged again. Service animals are highly trained medical equipment, and it is incredibly frustrating that a business with a "service animals only" policy is housing an aggressive, free-roaming pet that poses a safety risk to working dogs. I love the selection here, but the lack of safety management and the poor employee reaction to a dangerous situation makes it hard to recommend returning. Just because a cat is friendly to humans and poses no problems with humans doesn't mean it can't be aggressive. Although The employee reacted purely on instinct because they thought they were witnessing animal cruelty (a human kicking a cat). They didn't stop to assess that my dog was a service animal or that the cat initiated the fight. Thank you for the reply. To be clear, as an owner, do you have a specific written policy regarding the training and safety of your resident animals around visiting service animals, and can you point me to where that is posted for customers?

Rail City Garden Center is a nice place to buy the plants and trees, along with all types of fertilizers and accessories. Their staff is very knowledgeable and the experience shows. HOWEVER, WITH THAT SAID, their 3rd party landscapers that they rely on to pick up your store bought greenery to plant on the time and date given to you by the staff, is something to be desired. SummerScape Landscape construction were notified by staff on 5/14/26 (the day we purchased their services) and we were given the date for 5/25/26. They never showed. Called back 5/26/26 and they again contacted them with a new date of 5/29/26. They never showed again. They finally came out on 6/5/26 and did a pretty good job, except that they failed to attach the drip line to two of the plants. Bottom line is, customers need to follow up continuously to insure they contact and make arrangements for landscaping with whomever they use as a third party. In the future we will probably buy plants from them, but find our own landscapers.

I had no idea this place was here until today. And I honestly don't want to share this review because this place was hidden jem! I wanna keep it to myself! This place deserves 5 stars. My friend had warned me that the prices were high, but I didn't find it to be so. I found the prices to be comparable with those of other big chain plant centers. The variety of plants to choose from was more varied than the big chains. There was a lovely ambiance here that you won't find at other places. There are two water features to look at. One had giant coy and turtles swimming in. The turtles are available for purchase and the whole thing was just lovely. There was also a large tree house with a winding slide coming out from it. Im not sure, but I think children would be allowed to utilize it. There was an area by check out that had complimentary coffee, water and fresh popped pop corn. We were also offered assistance right away and enjoyed chit chat with a happy employee. It was an all around enjoyable experience. I highly recommend. Oh, and they had a lot of other things one would need when landscaping or building a garden, but I didn't check the prices on those. I did check on the prices of their saplings and I was surprised to find they were less than the big chain store prices.

Rail City Garden Center has a ton of whatever you are looking for in the way of trees or flowers or garden plants. Pawl, the owner, is also so knowledgeable and can help solve any of your plant or insect or tree’s problems. There is also a very nice support staff on hand to help you. We go here very often in the summer. Everyone is friendly and always willing to be of service.

So I paid “ole Paul” to come give me a bid on redoing my koi pond. Adam, who is great, came out and took measurements. Waited for “ole Paul” to get back to me. Called three times. “Ole Paul” will get back to you. One year later “ole Paul” still hasn’t called me back. Don’t waste your time with his construction services. Even his plants are over priced. Ole Paul needs to retire
