Experience was OK. $5 to park, nice little area to take photos. Hayride was level with the exhaust, so was trying to avoid inhaling the fumes on the way out to the orchard. Rows of apples were not well marked with faded writing and there was extremely limited information on what was available for picking beforehand. Red delicious, golden delicious were available. Ida reds, Empire, and Grimes were essentially gone. $2/lb. Small little store for $7/6 donuts and few other items. Donuts were fine.

My experience: I had a great time going out to the farm and picking our own apples. Keep in mind you are outdoors with nature, so you will run into hornets, bees etc. while picking, because they feast on them. However, they wont bother you if you are careful not to disturb them. You see them just move to another tree. Great food selection and a lot of local food products. Look at my photos for more detail. They even have cider slushy on the menu. Money side: The cost of picking apples is more than buying in the store. So keep that in mind. There is a flat fee of 10 or so dollars to pick the apples plus 2 dollars per pound up to a certain weight. After you hit a target weight it goes down to 1.5 per pound. Buying a empty bag onsite to pick apples is 2 dollars so I would bring your own box or bag to save on that cost. Cider is 7 dollars per gallon and I drank a half gallon in one day so 6 really good. For cost I give it $$$ out of 5.

Visiting an apple orchard was a first for me, and Lohr’s definitely so. I, nor the students I was accompanying on this field trip, didn’t know what to expect. Well, I’d say now, dress for walking. And Dress dirty so you can enjoy it. Seated in a large acreage, you drive up to the homestead, with a large garage, siloh, parking, and shop. It is very homely looking, and you can pose for pictures around the signs, pumpkins, fields or go apple picking. The orchard is a large, and an established one. Seems you can walk a couple of miles. Lots of trees. Trees are mature and healthy, producing loads of huge large red and green delicious apples, plus Granny Smiths. I had the joy of @pickin mi own apples”! Such a lovely experience for me and the kids. And the best part was the leaving. Why?! I got to go home, and bake these yummy apples into several apples pies with lots of help. Yay!!!!; very much enjoyed this and re on mend that you do the same too. By the way, they are closing for the season now, but make apple cider all winter long. Yay for good old time activities. A great place to go. Now excuse me please whilst I go look for some ice cream to eat with my delicious apple pie. See ya next spring! :-)

It has been three years since I visited this Orchard. Nothing compares to the night I ate a whole jar of Lohr’s Orchard’s baby dill pickles (see picture). Every time somebody even MENTIONS pickles I tell them about Lohr’s Orchard. Their pickles are legendary and I will tell tales of them for many years to come…
