It's a good one-time experience if you have kids. They see how cherries grow and they could pick cherries. I wouldn't pay $18 per adult just to enter and then $4.00 per lb entry weekend. The cherries are organically grown and they taste amazing. The others are awesome people. You can buy from the gate at $5.00 per lb without picking. I think that's a good deal.
The Guldseth family are the nicest and friendliest people. The orchards look great and the cherries were oh so good. I shipped some to Orlando Fl and my aunt loved them. Big Bear Lake California loves Guldseth Cherry Orchards. See ya next time.
We came a little early and just waited on one of the benches outside the gate. The weather was perfect under the trees for some reading. When 9 hit we were greeted by a very nice young man who picked us a pound of cherries and explained to us the city switched the orchards from paying agricultural water rates to residential rates causing the other orchards in town to shut down. The only way Guldseth had managed to stay open is by having a u-pick entrance fee. This was great information and we would love to come back and pick cherries for our whole family.
One of the last cherry U-Picks in Cherry Valley, and very happy it is continuing to thrive. We went a week ago and met Christian, who is incredibly friendly and willing to explain the whole process and patiently showed us the varieties of cherries they have growing in their orchard (over 50 kinds!!). You can tell he's proud of continuing to take care of the family orchard, especially from how knowledgeable he is and the guidance he provided. While there is an entrance fee, these are organically grown, no pesticides, you'll allowed to pick and eat to try on each tree to see if you like it, and there are so many varieties here to pick from. We are absolutely coming back - Christian, you have made our family into fans and as close as an annual subscriber as a U-Pick farm can be by coming back when we can until the season is over and coming back the years after!
This is a u-pick cherry business. We recently bought a pound at a grocery store for $4.95 and most were either not quite ripe or were rotting before they could get ripe. So, we thought buying some direct would both save us money and get us excellent cherries. The cherries were excellent! The price was on the hysterical side (well, this is SoCal)and intended to make fun of us. We will probably not return and take our chances at Walmart. But like another reviewer said, this is a nice first time experience for kids.
