Garden Goods - Traverse City MI

I’ve only visited this store once, and during that trip I purchased several plants. While I was there, I specifically asked for help finding the correct type of lavender for culinary use—English lavender. Unfortunately, I was sold the wrong variety: French lavender. While they may sound similar, they are completely different plants with very different culinary uses (and taste—iykyk). Once I realized the mistake on a plant that cost less than $10, I did what most people would do in that situation—I called the store to ask about an exchange, replacement, or refund, whatever they preferred. I don’t grow this variety, I don’t have space for it, and I don’t use it. I didn’t expect the response I received. After being transferred between three people, disconnected, and having to call back, I finally spoke with the owner. She asked for a full rundown of the “situation,” which I provided, though it felt excessive for such a small purchase. I was also asked to describe the employee who helped me, which added to the frustration. At first, I was told all sales were final and nothing would be done. Eventually, I was offered half off the correct lavender plant—the one I originally came in for. However, I don’t see how spending more money fixes the issue, so I won’t be returning. It’s unfortunate, because the employee who assisted me was kind and genuinely willing to help, and the store itself appeared to have a decent selection. That said, there are plenty of other plant shops in the area, and I’ll be taking my business elsewhere this season. It’s disappointing that resolving a simple issue over a plant costing less than $10 was considered too much of an inconvenience. A small gesture would have gone a long way. I called with a plant I’d received as a gift and wasn’t sure how to care for as winter approaches, and the team could not have been more helpful. They listened to what was going on, asked smart questions about lighting, watering, and potting mix, and then walked me through exactly what to do. Their advice was friendly, confident, and easy to follow. Best part: they had everything I needed in stock, and pickup was quick. They even gave me a few pro tips for ongoing care. I feel I got more value out my experience at the store than any other plant nursery or gardening center in Traverse City. And they had seasonal decorations too! Absolutely Beautiful Garden Shop! I had a fantastic experience at Garden Goods! The variety of plants, trees, and flowers they offer is incredible. Everything from vibrant seasonal blooms to hard-to-find indoor plants and mature trees. The staff was not only knowledgeable but also genuinely passionate about what they do. They took the time to help me pick out the right plants for my space and even gave helpful care tips. The shop is well-organized, clean, and full of inspiration for gardeners of all levels. Highly recommend if you're looking to beautify your home or garden!

I don't write reviews online, and I especially am not one to seek or ask for help in a store unless Im completely clueless. Came in here for a small gift for a friend who is really into plants. I love plants myself, but barely know how to keep outdoor plants alive, so I'm sure I looked lost. I was in 9/3 around 2-3 pm and the young woman who helped me was very helpful and pretty knowledgeable on plants herself. She helped me figure out which plants did really well indoors, gave me advice on which kind/size pot to use and then when I expressed a bit of uncertainty when checking out, she reassured me that the plant was easy to care for & explained what it does when it needs water, etc. So overall, I dont typically go in a store expecting people to know what they're selling. It's not a dig at the current work force, we are all trying to survive. So its always great seeing someone who works somewhere and gets to use their natural knowledge & can apply it everyday! I did not catch her name, but if a manager/owner sees this, please always value her and people like her! She not only made a sale, but made it so I didnt look silly getting a gift for a plant enthusiast!

This is a wonderful local nursery that has everything you need to get started gardening, both indoors and out. No leaf blowers or wheelbarrows, but every kind of gardening glove and container you could want. Plus helpful and friendly advice from all of their staff! I felt cared for and heard when I asked for advice, and they didn't make me feel weird or dumb. They had a lot of spring things out (Easter decor and springtime wreaths) but I can't wait to visit here in every season!
