Cedar River Garden Center - Palo IA

I just visited this place for the second time. I live about 45 minutes away. After looking at several places in Des Moines and Iowa City, I found what I needed here. Hands down the biggest selection of plants I've found in eastern Iowa.

I love going here! Great selection of plants and a plethora of cats! (That last thing was probably something you didn’t know ;) Cats shown are Sweetie (Gray fluffy), Moose (White And Black fluffy who is huge), and Momma (the tortie).

They have a great staff, and a great selection of plants. There’s shredded topsoil and compost can’t be beat for making a garden bed. But you need to be careful if you buy a tree that has been overwintered. We got those river birch at half price and paid to have them planted since the pot was so bad. We are disappointed that they sold a tree that only had leaves on one trunk. I would wait until the trees have leaves on them before buying next time. They do not warranty over winter trees. I just wish they would make sure they had leaves before the winter begin.

Lupine I bought at Cedar River Garden Center last year. Had to dig down about 24 inches, because Lupine have a 20 inch tap root, then added sand and peat moss. This is the result a year later! Thanks CRGC!
